Nancy Wang, LCSW
Child Therapist in San Francisco
I’m Nancy Wang, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in the San Francisco Bay Area. I specialize in child therapy, helping children and families improve their relationships, functioning, and emotional well-being. I particularly enjoy working with children facing challenges in school, peer relationships, behavioral difficulties, and anxiety—guiding them to build inner strength and coping skills.
With over 17 years of experience in the mental health field, I’ve worked in community agencies, schools, and private practice, providing both individual and group therapy for children. I also work closely with parents to ensure the most effective support for the child. My training includes Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT), PCIT-SM (specialized treatment for selective mutism), and Supporting Parents with Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE).
My Approach to Therapy
My therapeutic approach is grounded in humanistic and person-centered principles. I believe healing happens within the context of safe, supportive relationships. Using play therapy, which is a child’s natural language, alongside the therapeutic relationship, I create a space where children can process their emotions and make sense of their world.
I take a relational approach to therapy, tailoring evidence-based interventions to each child’s developmental stage. I focus not only on the child but also engage parents/caregivers in the therapeutic process to enhance family communication, connection, and support. I believe that family involvement is crucial to helping children and adolescents thrive.

Supporting the child behind the behavior.
Behavior is communication. When children act out or struggle emotionally, they're often expressing deeper feelings they can't yet articulate. With over 17 years of experience and specialized training in play therapy and child-focused interventions, I look beyond behaviors to help children and teens in the San Francisco Bay Area build emotional resilience, develop healthy coping skills, and thrive socially and behaviorally.
Whether you're seeking child therapy, teen counseling, or parenting support, I'm here to help. Schedule a free, 45-minute consultation today to explore how therapy can support your child's growth and well-being.
