Play therapy for children and teens.
A specialized approach to support
behavioral, social, and emotional struggles.
At San Francisco Play Therapy, I provide child therapy, teen counseling, and family therapy to families in the San Francisco Bay Area. I specialize in child-centered therapy for children, offering an environment where kids can express their feelings, build coping skills, and develop emotional resilience. Whether your child is struggling with anxiety, behavioral issues, or peer relationships, therapy can help them navigate and overcome life’s challenges.
CHILD THERAPY
Child-centered play therapy (CCPT) is an evidence-based, developmentally responsive intervention that supports children experiencing social, emotional, behavioral, and relational struggles. Within the therapeutic relationship, play and artistic expression provide a safe environment where a child can experience full acceptance, empathy, and understanding while processing inner experiences and feelings. Grounded in person-centered principles, child-centered play therapy allows me to work with your child in a way that fosters emotional regulation, increased emotional vocabulary, and self-enhanced ways of being.
ADOLESCENT THERAPY
Young adolescents are faced with a variety of challenges in today’s world. I offer counseling services to preteens using a combination of activity therapy and talk therapy, depending on their specific needs. The use of art, music, play, and other expressive mediums can provide the distance and safety that may be helpful when discussing tough feelings and struggles.
SIBLING/GROUP THERAPY
Utilizing the principles of CCPT, Child-centered Group Play Therapy (CCGPT) offers children the opportunity to develop essential emotional, social, and behavioral skills in a supportive, peer-centered environment. Through group play, children improve their social skills, learn emotional regulation, and practice conflict resolution in real-time. CCGPT fosters emotional resilience, boosts self-esteem, and provides a sense of community where children facing similar challenges, such as anxiety, grief, or trauma, can find comfort and understanding.
Whether it's improving sibling relationships or enhancing social interaction, CCGPT creates a space for children to express themselves, build stronger connections, and gain confidence.
CHILD-PARENT PROGRAM
Child-Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT) is an evidence-based family therapy program that helps parents strengthen their connection with their child using play-based techniques. Parents record play sessions with their child, which are reviewed during therapy to identify areas of growth and strengths. This structured, 10-week approach teaches practical strategies for improving communication, setting boundaries, and responding with empathy to emotional and behavioral challenges.
Supporting the child behind the behavior.
Behavior is communication. When children act out or struggle emotionally, they're often expressing deeper feelings they can't yet articulate. With over 17 years of experience and specialized training in play therapy and child-focused interventions, I look beyond behaviors to help children and teens in the San Francisco Bay Area build emotional resilience, develop healthy coping skills, and thrive socially and behaviorally.
Whether you’re seeking child therapy, teen counseling, or parenting support, I'm here to help. Schedule a free, 45-minute consultation today to explore how therapy can support your child's growth and well-being.
